China: British food is weird!

Many people think that they eat weird stuff in China.  Well, you shouldn't be surprised to learn that this works both ways.  Here are some of the things that I've taken for granted since little that Chinese people dare not eat, and some of the things they've said about them...

  1. Lettuce
Why oh why would you eat leaves and grass?  It must be so bad for your stomach!  Shouldn't that be what you give cows and sheep to eat?
  2. Liquorice
Bitter sweets?  And doesn't that horrible black colour put you off?  What's it made of, do you even know? (The answer is methoxybenzene...)
  3. Cheese
How can we wrinkle our noses in disgust at pig tail or chicken feet when we eat moldy rancid milk??  Blue cheeses such as Stilton and Rocquefort draw particularly pallid expressions...
  4. Carpaccio
What is with the raw stuff?  Can't I just borrow their kitchen and boil it a little?
  5. Red wine
Why on earth would you pay so much for something that tastes exactly like cough medicine?

Please add anything else in the comments :-).
